Income tax is nothing more (or less) than a penalty on hard work, innovation, and thrift. To see what America would look like without it, look at the USA from its founding to the imposition of federal income taxes in the early 20th Century. Since then, more effort has gone into extracting something from every penny earned than into improving each citizen's actual earning potential. Most telling - the Founders' prohibited such taxes in the Constitution.
Trump is taking a rather unique approach to this tariff thing. It would never occur to me to refund the revenue versus paying off debt. But that is because I am a sane person. Trump isn’t insane, but he knows how to get Americans to think AND, he is a salesman.
It just occurred to me what he is actually doing. Tariffs only raised $284 Billion in revenue which is a small fraction of what comes in from income taxes, but the average citizen doesn’t know that. So, offering a rebate and suggesting that he will eliminate the income tax gets our attention.
But, sane economists say eliminating the income tax will raise the national debt by over $4 Trillion! And that is correct. But who cares? And that is the beauty of Trump’s salesmanship! The public sees our $38.3 Trillion of national debt as no problem at all, so adding another $4 Trillion is of no consequence AND the advantage is no income tax at all. What a deal! Let’s go for it!
So, the “Idea” of a rebate gets the Left to use the reality of more “out of control debt” as their reason to “cheat” citizens out of a $2000 check. I don’t know about you folks, but I find this to be hilarious!

In 2025 tariffs brought in $284 Billion but, as the article says, income taxes were $2.7 Trillion. That means a ratio of about 10:1 of tax to tariff. We have a long way to go.
In truth, the income tax isn’t the real problem. If we look at the CBO’s data, we find that a huge amount of income tax is diverted to fund entitlements. Without that diversion, we would have a balanced budget right now and, in fact, show a nice gain with a pay down of debt.
No Income Tax (or any tax) is coming but that is not the end game. 90% (at a minimum) elimination of ALL government (empoyees, selected officials, agencies, ngo, etc.) plus elimination of all laws/regulations back to at least the Civil War must also happen... "We Don't Need No Stinkin' Badgers" (remember that line from UHF?:-)
Let’s think about federal employees for a minute. You know, they pay absolutely no income tax. Yes, they account for what is withheld from their paycheck, but their total pay is at our expense, paid from the income taxes we actually pay. So, bottom line, the government could save a lot of time and wasted effort by merely not taxing them in the first place. Doesn’t that actually make sense?
But, that would piss off all of us non-federal tax payers, wouldn’t it? So, you see, making the federal employees have income tax withheld merely confuses things rather than making them sensible.
This analysis should show that every federal employee is a burden on us tax payers and the smaller our government can be, the better. This goes counter to everything the Marxists love.
Every government agency that cannot be justified by an honest, cost effective evaluation must be closed immediately. There are hundreds of them and they are all essentially worthless entities.
How about this idea? Trump immediately goes on TV and announces that his first step in eliminating the income tax will be for all federal employees. He helped normies with no tax on tips and overtime. Now it is fair to let federal employees off of the system.
That will piss off a lot of us, won’t it? But it will get the truth out.
Actually, their salaries should be cut by the amount of tax so the deal is a wash. We just stop paying a tax by proxy.
If we want to eliminate the income tax AND ALL federal taxes from our payroll checks, we need to implement HR25 The Fair Tax Act of 2025. The Fair Tax act will fully fund Social Security, eliminate the IRS and the Fair Tax is paid only on NEW products and services by the end users. I've been a big fan of the FairTax to replace income tax for years; the idea of taxing only discretionary spending, and then only part of that, flips most of the negatives of taxing income into positives, rewarding instead of punishing savings, investment, productivity, thrift, and so on. As currently configured, the FairTax essentially replaces the income our government derives from income taxes, but we also need to incentivize reducing the size of government and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse. That should be a primary goal regardless of what system we use to share the costs.
