It occurs to me that Harvard, Yale, and all other universities are just a small piece of the bigger problem that BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, and all of the other investment managers create. The problem is a total lack of confidence in investing by the vast majority of Americans. This includes university presidents.
So, the problem is ignorance and passing the buck to experts. However, once anyone gives their investment decision making up to others, they also give up their voting rights as shareholders. This gives immense power to the financial organizations that actually own the control of huge blocks of individual corporation shares.
Universities have huge endowments but readily give up the same control, but for different reasons. They do not want the responsibility of making bad decisions so they pass the buck to gain cover. If the investments drop in value, they point to the experts they hired to provide cover.
This is the bottom line of how America has been manipulated into giving so much power to these financial businesses. The control of the Boards in the corporations they own is where they force unwanted changes that almost no one understands.
The last thing we need is for this same level of control to be in the hands of politicians! That would be catastrophic! What we need is non-voting shares in our Sovereign Wealth Funds. That way, the advantages of compound corporate growth can be used to benefit the untrained investor without giving up the voting rights. Individual investors who study the business can retain their voting rights while sharing the wealth generation with all of America.
In my opinion, this is a direction that makes the most sense while putting a stop to the abuse of the financial manipulators. Maybe this can be worked into future articles because our present course correction is still misguided and not correcting the real problems.
Such an informative article! I was not one who got caught up in the lust to go to an “Ivy League” school, but my son has fallen for it. He says it will carry more weight on his resume. My dad tried to explain to him that there are more good jobs than there are Harvard/Yale graduates and that he will be fine, he’s a very smart person. I think he has no idea of the bullet he dodged by not going to any of them. Thank God, indeed! I don’t want him more exposed to the cancer that is wokeness than he already was in high school, he’s still young and salvageable 😂
