I am interested in AI. Why? Because it is the fastest way to get rid of the parasites: some expert gatekeepers and a lot of the middlemen. Why do you need a real estate agent to buy or sell real estate? Who actually closes? An attorney and possibly a lender. What if the lender is someone's IRA (legal if structured correctly)? Wouldn't an attorney be better suited to set up the financing through that entity? An AI bot well versed in tax law could be used to close that deal so that the IRA remains that: a retirement account.
Why do we need a credentialed expert to read imaging? Isn't that pattern matching: something for which AI is really well suited? And it reduces costs considerably. Again I'll use a simple example: an arthritic dog who comes in for a film. A vet tech does the filming and the AI reads the film. The AI comes in with an 'unremarkable' reading (nothing there-pain is either referred or soft tissue). The vet tech gets the vet to write a prescription for an anti-inflammatory and the dog is outta there. Why? Cost and better use of the vet's time. Cost to the patient is way less because there was no scheduling of the vet. Same could be true for lab tests. In fact some hospitals are already using AI to read imaging studies and are doing so for cost reasons.
It is true AI can be used for nefarious purposes. However, as I mentioned before: these bots have to be taught and it matters who writes the rules, including the rules on ethics, that governs the bots. While I am skeptical of China writing the rules, I am also skeptical of the US writing the rules. I don't trust either side. Both have shown that the gloves are off when it comes to dominating other countries. Why? Because of who the President is engaging in the development of AI. To see what I mean, look at X. Don't we still see censorship of posts that are anti-globalist, or anti-Semitic or anti-DEI? That means that Musk hasn't yet succeeded in either teaching the AI to stay out of posts or gotten rid of the entrenched bureaucracy that did most of the censoring.

Now I am watching how this AI plays out and I fear most not the battle itself (with China because I know about China - it is show), but how we react to AI's presence: look at the data center battle. I think our close mindedness about AI is worse than anything China can do.
In reference to AI reading films -- I had AI read my X-ray. It didn't see that I had 2 broken bones in my back. So -- while it CAN work at reading, it isn't always accurate. It can miss things that are very important. We shouldn't let it take over where human interaction is needed.
I am not opposed to using AI, I just am on the fence for the scope of the use. To use it without any oversight is dangerous. In your example of the vet tech, those scans should still be verified by humans -- who can see things that AI would miss. AI can only read what it is programmed to look for.
I use AI every day - I know that. I use it as a tool, but I am still in control of how I use it. When we concede our own knowledge to that of a machine -- nope. That is a big nope for me. That creates groupthink. And that is dangerous. We get groupthink without it as well. It does have uses for which it excels. But it also creates and sways opinion based on how the AI was programmed. If we allow it to think for us, we are doomed.

Thats the sole purpose of a "corporate" based government. Name any legislation that actually increased competition. The biggest issues for start ups are cash flow (capital) and burdensome regulation. Thats why the early adopters always serk legislative "fixes".

Reminded me of that tv series, Person of Interest (with Jim Caviezel.). In the finale, the 2 AIs (The Machine vs Samaritan) were at war. The Machine had been “educated” on the human capacity for empathy…
