It’s all the not-foods on the shelves that are most subject to price fluctuations because those are the products that the roughly one dozen mega giants control. Actually, it could probably be a useful tool in that regard. A large part of crime investigation involves pattern recognition - looking for anomalies like unexplained changes in schedules, purchases, etc. - which AI can do extremely well. With technologies like Smart Meters, cell phones, credit/debit cards, store loyalty programs, etc. a very great deal of information is available for AI systems to sift through. China does this very well, on its own people and probably on a lot of us. The question is whether we really want our law enforcement (gov't) doing this, because the process is inherently indiscriminate - it *can't* just look for missing and exploited children, or even just for crimes.
