I was especially struck by Simon's Q-delta-noted take. The idea of fear (not doubt) being the opposite of faith becomes clearer when we remember that the word for faith really means to have confidence in the trustworthiness of someone. For Christians, that Someone is our Loving Father. It is not my place to provide here (though I have elsewhere) the big answers as to why a Loving Supreme - meaning Omnipotent - Creator allows evil to persist (even enter the scene at all). But on the surface - we all have the choice to either have faith - confidence in the trustworthiness of a certain one - or to allow fear to dominate (which, ironically is actually a declaration of confidence in the certain one who is threatening - so I guess we all put our "faith" somewhere).
For those who are interested, the Bible is full of real human stories of choosing to put confidence in God, despite the message of fear being pushed by circumstances. In the often quoted (or at least referred to) passage on the Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) we are reminded to take up the shield (this is one the size of a door by the way) of faith with which we will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil.
