What we seem to forget is what existed in America about 70 years ago. We had a Democrat party and a Republican Party. Most Republicans were conservatives but so were a great number of Democrats. In fact, the vast majority of Southern Democrats were conservative and progressive ideas were hated in the South.
What has happened since the 1950’s is the Democrat progressives have chased the conservative Democrats away and they have found a warm welcome in the Republican Party. The Kennedys of old were of the conservative Democrat ilk. At least they were able to attract the Southern Democrats with their positions.
So, Bobby Kennedy being chased away makes complete sense to me. He is way too slow to read the tea leaves, but he is from a very well established Democrat family. That same family just disowned him for supporting Trump. They have just proven how out of touch they still are.
Look, what we need to get straight in the heads of most Americans is the fact that this is not a Republican versus Democrat contest. It is Conservative versus Radical Left and Trump is proving this daily. Some old school Democrats are just not seeing what the problem is. Here is the real problem. After the Civil War the southern Democrats were left behind by the new Black Republican voters. Black’s found themselves with political power never known before and the Democrats set out to kill off that power.
The net result was the first division. It was to divide Black voters from Black voters by splitting off Republican Blacks by creating Democrat Blacks. If you have any questions look at how Blacks voted before Trump came along.
The other split I saw as a child was Democrats thought of themselves as being Southern and Republicans as being Yankees. It took Reagan to kill off that stereotype. He got us southerners to realize we were actually conservatives and not anti-yankee. What helped me see all of this was my father was from Ohio and my Mom was from NC. I saw how my southern family treated Yankees and it wasn’t pretty.
Quite frankly, it was a residual of the Civil War that we had to get over for our own good. It is not so clear for other Democrats without such a clear picture of the way they are manipulated.
