Was "Davinci" trolling the naive"? His explanation (hurricane, high pressure, winds, drought, aged infrastructure) sounds perfectly reasonable. The operative word here being "perfect". The situation seemed to be almost . . .planned. I'm sure these all contributed to the apocalyptic catastrophe.
Yep, The verdict is still out here on some kind of planned nastiness or opportunism or both. But the DEW notion lacks credibility and the conditions weren’t really unusual. Even for Maui, it wasn’t an exceptionally dry August.
BUT, I can’t rule out the idea of HAARP causing the hurricane to the S & a high pressure to the N. It’s indeed something that could have been created; it could have been natural too, so we can’t know. A possibility! The opportunities for exploitation are enormous too.
But every news story I read from every source has some assumption or other in it that stems from and leads to even more misperceptions. I like this guy’s video because it dispels some goofy ideas that people who’ve never lived there have & spread which then become predicates for speculation. He lets us start with some facts and fire science and geography & we can go from there. It eliminates most of the chaff.
We’re in this weird position these days, of distrustIng everything — because of
the ubiquitous and diabolical lies, gaslighting, scheming and deliberate injuries to us that we now know to be so. But the danger there is it can become indiscriminate and almost reflexive. We ironically become gullible: if it fits into a “conspiracy theory”, then it must now be true!
I’m trying not to do that — and in this one case,I have enough background understanding of the island to be able to do that, having lived there — so I can exercise some discernment. I try to use BB’s good old bicameral thinking (very taxing for this bear of very little brain, too!).
A note to correct a statement I made in my post about the missionaries. I cannot find anything in my searches online today to support the idea that fake missionaries were sent by business interests, though I read it in a book years ago & still believe it to be true wrt some of those who arrived in the later waves. By far, most were good and modest-living, simple and sincere servants and were a great friend to the amazing people of Hawaii. The first Dole I think was sincere — But his descendants and those of others were certainly allied with the US government & monied interests; they became powerful and wealthy themselves. There was a high degree of trust accrued that they took advantage of and betrayed. The end of the monarchy is another fascinating and disturbing story of political shenanigans and it resonates to this day with the Lahaina fire and its aftermath.
Since I can’t verify that first claim, though, I withdraw it, Amy (and anyone else who still might be reading these posts).
1) Grass— That grass wasn’t planted. It likely came in with cattle, accidentally imported like a lot of invasive weeds and critters. It’s Guinea grass (I think)—grows fast & tall & dries, then is perfect fuel when the wind whips down the mt. It took over when the irrigated pineapple fields in West Maui & the sugar cane on the other part of the island were abandoned. Originally, I believe those slopes were forested with native trees, certainly native grasses with different habits. (That’s from memory — so it’s just a rough outline).
Not any of the other islands? I don’t understand the question. Lots of fires have occurred on the islands. And a destructive hurricane on Kauai, volcano eruptions on the big island. West Maui above Lahaina has old systems and dry old buildings. It’s reasonable that the winds would super heat and drive the brush fire behind on the town into the perfect fuel — old wooden buildings. Homes with tile or slate roofs would possibly fare better. Even the many houses with corrugated metal roofs would likely fare no better. No insulation. & wood frames. The larger buildings (apts, etc) if adjacent would catch fire too. The winds were blowing incredibly hot large embers horizontally. It would just take a spark.
Why’d the cops turn people back? I have no idea. They have lots of ‘splaining to do.
Mil & water rescue? I’m not sure I understand the question. When and how and from where did they get there? The town was burning all along the water.
Lahaina, the West side is isolated. There were fires in a lot of other areas too. A ship can’t get into the harbor. Transportation was tricky on the only highway. I need to look at the timeline. I don’t understand why everybody wasn’t on high alert already. I don’t understand why videos show people standing around in Lahaina just watch the fire burn.
A LOT needs to be investigated and answers for. The authorities need to listen to the people too.
I’m just interested in a good outcome and accountability. And facts. At this point there are a lot of things that don’t seem to make sense. I certainly don’t have all the answers. I don’t think anyone does. Just doing my best to figure it out.
It was indeed a horror and disgraceful decisions have been made. Whether by devious design or just stupid, inept or self-serving, as I think Katrina was. I don’t know. I hope we learn the truth and do better. I hope the people of Maui can determine their course with wisdom.
Yep. His replacement gave the same reason—excuse— for not sounding the alarm as his disgraced predecessor. Needs to be compared to the actual guidelines for the siren alerts. They are to be sounded for all emergencies. People are then to check disaster info — am/fm (battery if no power) radios, phones etc. for instructions. There was no orderly response. Procedures were not followed. Infrastructure failed. It was an all-system failure. Yet still, so many emergency workers & regular people risked their lives for others & did their best.
This kind of negligence, or worse, must never happen again. I totally agree with you. But it’s up to us. Our wisdom is hard-won — especially these last 3 years. Lessons: Self-reliance, prepare, learn, love your neighbor, don’t expect anything good from the government…until we gain our sovereignty back and we are the govt. We we’ve been gaslit and asleep for so long. But take heart! This here substack itself exists!

Only on the 3rd paragraph now, but wanted to send it. With the tools at the Redfin site, you can zoom out & in to the places mentioned. Search name locations as well & then can find a handy house for sale & “walk around”. You’ll understand what it’s like, terrain, etc.
I’d like to add re the sirens not being sounded — answers they gave were not credible & this omission was huge. Seems like there’s a lot of ass-covering going on.
The water supply to firefighters before it got to town & thereafter wasn’t “shut off” like I hear repeated. 👉🏼It failed. Water supply systems in West Maui are poor and inadequate and pipes in the homes were fire damaged & leaked water out of the broken system. —So not enough & ever-diminishing pressure. At some point, the firefighters would neet to move away or become engulfed themselves. ..as the fire spread down to the town.
Archaic electrical poles (wood) burned (more fuel) & downed lines in the fires, roads were blocked. Wind, smoke embers picture blowing hard and constant on a kindling and fire in your fireplace.
…Front street, which was the one with all the cars carrying fleeing people empties on to the highway North and South of town. It (the highway) bypasses old Lahainatown. The stories I heard @ where Front St. was blocked involved the North junction. (I don’t know about the South end was blocked.)
— They may have been thinking to keep the highway open for emergency vehicles heading to & from the fire. 👇🏼(There is alsoa new bypass above the highway over and above the town. It returns to the highway some miles S of Lahaina. The burn was adjacent to this on the Lahaina side. The entrance is a short ways N of the Fr. St./ highway Junction. Cars were blocked on the hwy going both ways, N & S of the entrance. Situational awareness was near impossible & ever changing. They were disgracefully unprepared.
The traffic back-up & fires & fallen burning stuff blocking the road made it impossible to move. I think it must have taken some time to even get to the water to rescue people.
1) Enlarge the map and study it.(enlarge it for the whole island picture. Zoom in on different areas too.Both street and satellite views are helpful.) 2) Find the “street view”. Take a “stroll”.
You’ll get a good idea of the layout and from this be able to picture what they’re talking about.
One last thing. People there are very hang loose. Life is pretty good. It’s beautiful. I didn’t like going into Lahaina. It was commercialized & touristy. The small homes on the tiny streets, though, were the land-poor locals —working families in generational homes; renters — old and young, families, singles, some with businesses, many from the mainland at some point coming to live the dream. They worked construction, in the bars and restaurants, galleries, shops. Some owned small businesses or made stuff to sell. Many commuted to the other side or the resorts & high rise hotels North for jobs every day. All are priced out of buying property unless they have some family help. At least that’s my take. Probably woefully dim.
Many houses were in varying degrees of disrepair, small lots with a private world of jungle, fruit trees, misc stuff & inventive what not. I stayed out of these neighborhoods out of respect.
I hope you don’t mind this long addendum.
Their day-to-day, recovery, & rebuilding is complicated and will take time. Good grass-roots organization is happening. But they’re deeply grieving ineffable losses.

I think they had several possible strategies going on at the same time & I’m going back over the timeline that day and before — when the DC ralley was first mentioned (it morphed a lot in the interim!) and continued to morph up until Trumps delayed speech and then the bomb threats precipitated the evacuation of congress. I also re-read Pence’s letter — it was perfect, like T’s perfect phone calls. Miller said once that when everything is known about that day it will astonish everyone — or something like that (I need to find it). The session before the evac was so very different than how it went in the afternoon. I want to watch it all again because I think that will tell us something about the change in direction that had to do with the TIMING of the bomb threat, T’s delay, & so much else that was scheduled for him & his maga peeps that day at the capitol. A few wrenches to throw in. (I need a scratchin me head emoji😂): The interview w/ the capitol police chief (huh??? Where did Miller fit in??) and the very strange Chesebro fellow. Who, what is this guy and did T know about this??? Was it just a stupid thing on these guys initiative, or with T???

Rather, I set up solitary bee boxes on the side of my garage to encourage these pollinators into my garden. The fact is that post-event analysis of fires has come to be a fairly precise science (real science here, not FDA 'science...')
The information is there to determine what happened when, in what order, where things started, whether accelerants were used, and many other facts. Unless someone stops it, everything will come out. But therein lies the problem: like with the Las Vegas shooting (overseen by the same cop who is now in Maui), [someone] may not want the truth to come out. In that case, it will be buried -- just like in Vegas.

Was "Davinci" trolling the naive"? His explanation (hurricane, high pressure, winds, drought, aged infrastructure) sounds perfectly reasonable. The operative word here being "perfect". The situation seemed to be almost . . .planned. I'm sure these all contributed to the apocalyptic catastrophe.
Yet, I'm not entirely convinced.
Yep, The verdict is still out here on some kind of planned nastiness or opportunism or both. But the DEW notion lacks credibility and the conditions weren’t really unusual. Even for Maui, it wasn’t an exceptionally dry August.
BUT, I can’t rule out the idea of HAARP causing the hurricane to the S & a high pressure to the N. It’s indeed something that could have been created; it could have been natural too, so we can’t know. A possibility! The opportunities for exploitation are enormous too.
But every news story I read from every source has some assumption or other in it that stems from and leads to even more misperceptions. I like this guy’s video because it dispels some goofy ideas that people who’ve never lived there have & spread which then become predicates for speculation. He lets us start with some facts and fire science and geography & we can go from there. It eliminates most of the chaff.
We’re in this weird position these days, of distrustIng everything — because of
the ubiquitous and diabolical lies, gaslighting, scheming and deliberate injuries to us that we now know to be so. But the danger there is it can become indiscriminate and almost reflexive. We ironically become gullible: if it fits into a “conspiracy theory”, then it must now be true!
I’m trying not to do that — and in this one case,I have enough background understanding of the island to be able to do that, having lived there — so I can exercise some discernment. I try to use BB’s good old bicameral thinking (very taxing for this bear of very little brain, too!).
A note to correct a statement I made in my post about the missionaries. I cannot find anything in my searches online today to support the idea that fake missionaries were sent by business interests, though I read it in a book years ago & still believe it to be true wrt some of those who arrived in the later waves. By far, most were good and modest-living, simple and sincere servants and were a great friend to the amazing people of Hawaii. The first Dole I think was sincere — But his descendants and those of others were certainly allied with the US government & monied interests; they became powerful and wealthy themselves. There was a high degree of trust accrued that they took advantage of and betrayed. The end of the monarchy is another fascinating and disturbing story of political shenanigans and it resonates to this day with the Lahaina fire and its aftermath.
Since I can’t verify that first claim, though, I withdraw it, Amy (and anyone else who still might be reading these posts).

Since "awakening," my approach has evolved from Reagan's "Trust, but verify" to "Cui bono" (who benefits).
As someone who has never had the privilege of stepping foot on our 50th State, those like yourself have additional credibility.
My Questions:
*Why did former sugarcane and pineapple plantations get planted with invasive foreign grass?
*Why didn't this occur on any of the OTHER islands of Hawaii?
*Why were the cops turning people BACK towards the fire?
*Where was the military? To rescue/evacuate those in the water?
To offer assistance during/after the conflagration?
This has become an absolute horror; a disgrace far being Katrina, imho.
1) Grass— That grass wasn’t planted. It likely came in with cattle, accidentally imported like a lot of invasive weeds and critters. It’s Guinea grass (I think)—grows fast & tall & dries, then is perfect fuel when the wind whips down the mt. It took over when the irrigated pineapple fields in West Maui & the sugar cane on the other part of the island were abandoned. Originally, I believe those slopes were forested with native trees, certainly native grasses with different habits. (That’s from memory — so it’s just a rough outline).
Not any of the other islands? I don’t understand the question. Lots of fires have occurred on the islands. And a destructive hurricane on Kauai, volcano eruptions on the big island. West Maui above Lahaina has old systems and dry old buildings. It’s reasonable that the winds would super heat and drive the brush fire behind on the town into the perfect fuel — old wooden buildings. Homes with tile or slate roofs would possibly fare better. Even the many houses with corrugated metal roofs would likely fare no better. No insulation. & wood frames. The larger buildings (apts, etc) if adjacent would catch fire too. The winds were blowing incredibly hot large embers horizontally. It would just take a spark.
Why’d the cops turn people back? I have no idea. They have lots of ‘splaining to do.
Mil & water rescue? I’m not sure I understand the question. When and how and from where did they get there? The town was burning all along the water.
Lahaina, the West side is isolated. There were fires in a lot of other areas too. A ship can’t get into the harbor. Transportation was tricky on the only highway. I need to look at the timeline. I don’t understand why everybody wasn’t on high alert already. I don’t understand why videos show people standing around in Lahaina just watch the fire burn.
A LOT needs to be investigated and answers for. The authorities need to listen to the people too.
I’m just interested in a good outcome and accountability. And facts. At this point there are a lot of things that don’t seem to make sense. I certainly don’t have all the answers. I don’t think anyone does. Just doing my best to figure it out.
It was indeed a horror and disgraceful decisions have been made. Whether by devious design or just stupid, inept or self-serving, as I think Katrina was. I don’t know. I hope we learn the truth and do better. I hope the people of Maui can determine their course with wisdom.

Yep. His replacement gave the same reason—excuse— for not sounding the alarm as his disgraced predecessor. Needs to be compared to the actual guidelines for the siren alerts. They are to be sounded for all emergencies. People are then to check disaster info — am/fm (battery if no power) radios, phones etc. for instructions. There was no orderly response. Procedures were not followed. Infrastructure failed. It was an all-system failure. Yet still, so many emergency workers & regular people risked their lives for others & did their best.
This kind of negligence, or worse, must never happen again. I totally agree with you. But it’s up to us. Our wisdom is hard-won — especially these last 3 years. Lessons: Self-reliance, prepare, learn, love your neighbor, don’t expect anything good from the government…until we gain our sovereignty back and we are the govt. We we’ve been gaslit and asleep for so long. But take heart! This here substack itself exists!

I’d like to add re the sirens not being sounded — answers they gave were not credible & this omission was huge. Seems like there’s a lot of ass-covering going on.
The water supply to firefighters before it got to town & thereafter wasn’t “shut off” like I hear repeated. 👉🏼It failed. Water supply systems in West Maui are poor and inadequate and pipes in the homes were fire damaged & leaked water out of the broken system. —So not enough & ever-diminishing pressure. At some point, the firefighters would neet to move away or become engulfed themselves. ..as the fire spread down to the town.
Archaic electrical poles (wood) burned (more fuel) & downed lines in the fires, roads were blocked. Wind, smoke embers picture blowing hard and constant on a kindling and fire in your fireplace.
…Front street, which was the one with all the cars carrying fleeing people empties on to the highway North and South of town. It (the highway) bypasses old Lahainatown. The stories I heard @ where Front St. was blocked involved the North junction. (I don’t know about the South end was blocked.)
— They may have been thinking to keep the highway open for emergency vehicles heading to & from the fire. 👇🏼(There is alsoa new bypass above the highway over and above the town. It returns to the highway some miles S of Lahaina. The burn was adjacent to this on the Lahaina side. The entrance is a short ways N of the Fr. St./ highway Junction. Cars were blocked on the hwy going both ways, N & S of the entrance. Situational awareness was near impossible & ever changing. They were disgracefully unprepared.
The traffic back-up & fires & fallen burning stuff blocking the road made it impossible to move. I think it must have taken some time to even get to the water to rescue people.

1) Enlarge the map and study it.(enlarge it for the whole island picture. Zoom in on different areas too.Both street and satellite views are helpful.) 2) Find the “street view”. Take a “stroll”.
You’ll get a good idea of the layout and from this be able to picture what they’re talking about.
One last thing. People there are very hang loose. Life is pretty good. It’s beautiful. I didn’t like going into Lahaina. It was commercialized & touristy. The small homes on the tiny streets, though, were the land-poor locals —working families in generational homes; renters — old and young, families, singles, some with businesses, many from the mainland at some point coming to live the dream. They worked construction, in the bars and restaurants, galleries, shops. Some owned small businesses or made stuff to sell. Many commuted to the other side or the resorts & high rise hotels North for jobs every day. All are priced out of buying property unless they have some family help. At least that’s my take. Probably woefully dim.
Many houses were in varying degrees of disrepair, small lots with a private world of jungle, fruit trees, misc stuff & inventive what not. I stayed out of these neighborhoods out of respect.
I hope you don’t mind this long addendum.
Their day-to-day, recovery, & rebuilding is complicated and will take time. Good grass-roots organization is happening. But they’re deeply grieving ineffable losses.
They need our prayers and assistance.

Boy! I’m sure puzzling over that whole thing myself.
I think they had several possible strategies going on at the same time & I’m going back over the timeline that day and before — when the DC ralley was first mentioned (it morphed a lot in the interim!) and continued to morph up until Trumps delayed speech and then the bomb threats precipitated the evacuation of congress. I also re-read Pence’s letter — it was perfect, like T’s perfect phone calls. Miller said once that when everything is known about that day it will astonish everyone — or something like that (I need to find it). The session before the evac was so very different than how it went in the afternoon. I want to watch it all again because I think that will tell us something about the change in direction that had to do with the TIMING of the bomb threat, T’s delay, & so much else that was scheduled for him & his maga peeps that day at the capitol. A few wrenches to throw in. (I need a scratchin me head emoji😂): The interview w/ the capitol police chief (huh??? Where did Miller fit in??) and the very strange Chesebro fellow. Who, what is this guy and did T know about this??? Was it just a stupid thing on these guys initiative, or with T???

Thank you for the beekeeping compliments, but my handle is merely a play on words of my name to remain anonymous to some extent. I live in a small city where I can't actually keep honey bees. Rather, I set up solitary bee boxes on the side of my garage to encourage these pollinators into my garden. I hope to one day move back to the country with my husband after retirement where I can keep a few hives.

Ashe, you may be correct, but not likely for the reason you think (or maybe it is...)
The fact is that post-event analysis of fires has come to be a fairly precise science (real science here, not FDA 'science...')
The information is there to determine what happened when, in what order, where things started, whether accelerants were used, and many other facts. Unless someone stops it, everything will come out. But therein lies the problem: like with the Las Vegas shooting (overseen by the same cop who is now in Maui), [someone] may not want the truth to come out. In that case, it will be buried -- just like in Vegas.

But the video says pretty much what I believe: most likely the causes were 'innocent' (as in not part of a conspiracy theory) and the conditions made for the 'perfect firestorm.' That does not mean nothing can be learned here; on the contrary we must always learn from tragedies like this.
