If politics is downstream from culture, then culture is downstream from religion, meaning those beliefs we hold most dear appearing to us in narrative form. The narratives ultimately derive from revelation, the only true form of which is the Good Book, the Holy Writ, the Bible, also presented as narratives. The power of it is best consumed on an individual basis, one-to-one, man with God, IMHO. If discerned from another source, whoever well-intentioned, then it risks distortion...

The "wheels of Justice" sometimes seem agonizingly slow. There is a reason for the "slowness." It is to show that justice covers all areas of a dispute and is not just used or controlled by the Party in power.
Sadly, Justice has been used and controlled by the Party in Power for decades.
So the revealing, aka the reverse sting operation Trump is instrumental in organizing, is being done to catch every bad actor and to completely dispel any further arguments that the guilty parties were not given every chance to mitigate their actions or to come clean before facing their ultimate doom.

I think Ferriero was a good man and was probably shocked by what he was allowed to discover.
I think he probably flipped really easy because from the beginning, he was all about the public having access.
